Overall Task
MENTOR is currently seeking dynamic and motivated applicants for a 12 months position of Malaria Medical Coordinator for its emergency programme in Southern Chad. This key team member will work from two field bases covering malaria control needs for the Central African Republic refugees and surrounding host population.
Specific Tasks
- Ensure the compliance of The MENTOR Initiative activities in Southern Chad with all grant contract obligations by delivering technical capacity building and coaching sessions for malaria case management. - Direct line-management of The MENTOR Initiative national clinical trainers - including all related personnel matters. - Train and assist MoH public health staff at the district and local level in malaria case management at primary and secondary facility level as needed. - Train and assist local and international NGO staff in malaria case management. - Train local public health staff in surveillance protocols and techniques. - Provide on site coaching and regular supervisory visits to health posts. - Assist in the monitoring and analysis of public health facility data in order to identify areas in need of targeted training and supply activities. - Provide useful and positive input/advice regarding all levels of clinical operations and work with the team to ensure standardised health seeking messages for use in IEC campaigns. - Design appropriate IEC materials for case management. - Represent The MENTOR Initiative at district/regional level medical health meetings with the government and NGO partners - Assist in conducting malaria prevalence and other clinical monitoring surveys. - in the absence of the Project Coordinator, ensure general management, including all administrative aspects, of the Southern Chad project activities. - Assist the Southern Chad Project Coordinator in close and effective budget management for related areas. - Assist in the creation of viable proposal budgets. - Assume responsibility for management of financial and logistic issues relating to clinical staff under the posts supervision. - Provide the Southern Chad Project Coordinator with routine progress reports. - Assist in other reporting required by grant contracts. - Any other duties as may be assigned by the Southern Chad Project Coordinator.
Qualifications
- Qualified doctor, senior nurse of other similar related tropical medicine trainer - Tropical health training/background preferred - Experience and knowledge of "best practice" malaria case management. - Creative, innovative and strategic thinking ability. - Skilled communicator, both written and oral. - Proven ability to produce results. - Minimum two years experience in a developing country. - Familiarity with NGO working environments and standard procedures an advantage. - Competent in French and English - Completely honest, mature and reliable. - Open to, and tolerant of, other cultures and religions. - Ability to work well within a group and, also, unsupervised as required. - Willing to work long hours and weekends as required. - Courteous and polite to others at all times.
